Let's Play with Matches

We really are amazed at the good blog material that comes out of Family Home Evening. That's almost reason enough to have it. Tonight we were talking about fire safety with the boys. Targhee wanted to use visual aids and so he went out into the garage to look for a box of matches. Evan (our 2 yr old) said, "Mom, where did Dad go?" I said, "He's looking for some matches." He disappeared into his bedroom and came out with the box on the left. "Mom, tell Dad I found the matches."

Evan, you're the man. So helpful. I love kids' brains... in a good way.

I was expecting you to say that he came from his room with the real matches! Thank heavens his brain thinks more outside the box! (or he simply didn't know what they really were)-either way, all the better for your homeowners insurance policy!

We still hide anything that might be used to start a flame. . . As they are the offspring of a seasoned "firestarter" it's best that only I know when the matches are.

By the way, my little brother and his friend (when they were 5), started a fire in the friend's doghouse so they could see the fire engines come (my brother had been watching a Sesame Street Firehouse video). Anyway, the firetruck did come to put out the fire (which was quite large) and they were quite disappointed that it was yellow and not red. Needless to say, they weren't allowed to play together for quite some time.

I love your boys. How is the answering the door thing going? Nick had a talk with Brooklyn about it last night.
