Band-Aid: Cure for World Hunger?

Poor Evan slipped and fell and bit his lip (on the inside.) His immediate request was for me, of course, and then a Band-Aid (of the Scooby Doo variety. ) It seems that those things can ease any pain and heal any injury. I had to try really hard not to laugh at him with this thing on his face, though. Hilarious. Small children seem to have a lot of faith in that product. We have a neigbor who uses a great mind trick with his kids. When they get really iritable and tired and out of control of their emotions, he tells them, "Wow, it sounds like you really need an ice pack for behind your neck." They magically stop crying and say, "Yeah, that probably will make me feel better." Its like it puts a physical solution to an emotional problem. I love it (Thanks, Dave.) I am totally not above tricking my kids into complacency.

And really, who is? I think mind tinkering is a prerequisite to parenting. ;)
