We Got Crabs for Easter

We had a fabulous Easter weekend. Saturday Clinton City had the annual egg hunt across the street at our park this year. We sat in Jack's bedroom and watched the city workers and fire depatment set out all the eggs for the "hunt." We were ready to go when the horn blew and Mom and Evan kicked some 18-23 month butt in his category. He could have collected more, but he wanted to hold as many candy and eggs as possible in his hand before putting them in his bucket. His peers were busy crying and complaining that it was "cold" and he took advantage of their weakness to scored a ton of good Easter junk. Jack too was excited and seemed to have devised his own strategy for prize collection. He was not interested in the candy strew about haphazardly, but he focused instead on the plastic eggs themselves and the mysterious prizes they held (mostly plastic frogs, whistles and fish. We have 7-10 of each at least.) Dad was helping Jack and had encouraged him that once his bucket was full, he should help the other kids around him fill their buckets. Yeah, yeah.

Easter Sunday started early for us when Jack woke us up at 5:30 am begging to go and see if the Easter Bunny had been here yet. We held him off for about another hour of complaining until we conceded. Next year we aren't telling him it is Christmas or Easter until he wakes up THAT MORNING. He thinks about it all night and can't hardly sleep. Jack was surprised to see that the Easter Bunny had brought him a new pet. A hermit crab! His last pet, a parakeet named Zooie, was taken last year by the Easter Bunny for biting. It seemed only appropriate that he should make it up to Jack this year with the arrival of "Pinchy." jack loves to hold him and Evan keeps his distance and says, "I'm scared of Pinchy." That is Jack holding Pinchy in his new Jack Skellington PJ's, also brought by the Easter Bunny. Mom was excited to dress the boys up in their cute new Easter outfits that Grandma Green bought them. Evan was cooperative except that he first wanted me to take a picture of him wearing only a pair of souvenir Dutch clogs (getting back to his roots.) Unfortunately the clogs don't come out well in the picture. Check out that outie, though. We are always worried about zipping it up in his footie PJ's. I sometimes worry that maybe we have a disproportionately large number of naked pictures of our kids on this blog. Anyway, Jack would not let me take his picture in his new clothes, nor would he wear the DARLING sailboat vest with his outfit either. I had been preparing him for 2 weeks about how exciting it would be to wear that vest for Easter. How everyone was doing it. He refused saying, "It's dumb." He's 3! He is supposed to still be letting us dress him in ridiculous clothes for our own amusement.

We made Easter dinner at our house and I made a Crusted Leg of Lamb. It was yummy. We had Uncle Adam over and pigged out. We wish our Pennsylvania family could have been there to celebrate with us. We miss them being so far away. Hope you had a great Easter too!

Crabs for Easter, nice title. I'm sure all the kids in the neighborhood are like, "we wish we had crabs like Julie Child!"

I love the way you write is so funny it makes me enjoy my kids quirks. I hear that the DeLongs got Zooie for Easter. It is now the offical bird of Easter. hahaha

Love the tongue in cheek references. Have you tried the tape recorded bishop interview yet? The blog is great. Keep up the good work.

I need your email address! I don't think there is a Lego store in Las Vegas. I have been searching online for a while and can't find one. I looked on the Lego website and it does not show Nevada as having one. We do have an FAO Schwarz. The Lego store looks more fun though.
Maybe I am wrong so ask your friend where its at.
