The Little Green Cast
Jack broke his thumb just as the holiday celebrations were starting. He was playing around in the back of the van and dropped the seat on his hand. He was very brave for the casting process and in fact was very excited about it. He wanted to start collecting signatures right away. If you notice, there is an overwhelming majority of girls names. He knows what he is doing already, ladies. I saw him in action the first day I brought him back to school and the girls were all too ready to lay on the sympathy...he loved it. Also, it was his right hand, so he had to learn to do most everything with his left. His teacher sent home a spelling test a couple of days after the cast was put on saying how impressed she was with his speed in learning to write and cut, etc. with his left hand. He doesn't like to bathe much anyway, so that was no big inconvenience for him. It was getting pretty ugly looking, though, there at the end. He insisted on keeping the cast after it was removed last week and now it keeps making random appearances at unlikely and undesirable times. Like at dinner, or when a repairman or other acquantiance arrives at our house. I think in the six-year-old mind, a grubby discarded cast makes a good conversation piece, but most people just think its creepy. So, if you stop by sometime, be prepared for an impromptu show-and-tell. If you are a germophobe, you might not want to stop by at all.

You have got to put that on "spooky hand"! That would be the best show and tell ever! My boys kept their casts too and I sprayed the germs out of them with Lysol, but every time they reappear - I re-spray because they just look like they are germ beds!!!! :( Glad it's all healed up!
