Heavenly Foam Evening

For those of you who are not of the LDS faith, we reserve a night once a week (usually Monday) to spend with our family engaging in some type of wholesome and uplifting activity. Evan, our 2 yr old looks forward to this every week. Almost every night now he asks, "Hey, is tonight Heavenly Foam Evening?" The appropriate name is Family Home Evening. Lately the younger members of our family are fond of the childhood classic, Hungry Hungry Hippos as the game of choice. Usually by the end of the competition it has been neither wholesome nor uplifting. Jack tries to control the game and all the players and if he does not get the most marbles he collapses on the floor and yells, "I'm a loser!" Evan plays with a violent intensity that scares both me and the Hippos involved. I wonder if anyone has ever lost a finger playing this game. Targhee tries to intervene and before long we are both hoping the night is almost over. We hope you are having better luck in your Heavenly Foam Evening endeavors.

Glad to know that the Bishop's HFE is as uplifting as ours. Our HFE usually involves Tanner getting in trouble, or Tanner getting mad and running to his room. Oh the joy!

I think you could find a fun game to go along with Heavenly Foam Evening, involving little foam peanuts or lots and lots of bubbles...

What made you think Samson built our snowman?? It was me, all me... with a little help from Carson! You are impressed, I know.

My mom used to call it 'Homely Family'. She really didn't mean to. We would always have to correct her. I wonder if it was Fruedian.

Want to try wac-a-mole instead? Just kidding. We had a mean game of wac-a-serpent a few FHEs ago. The serpent being the devil popping up in unsuspecting places (Todd's hand in a sock) and then being whacked with various mallets (tools to overcoming temptation). We all had a great time, but Todd's hand was kinda sore for awhile. Small sacrifice for success one night a week. Long live Heavenly Foam Evening!

Our attempts are usually a 3-ring circus as well. There's us parents trying to teach a lesson or sing a song, Jack running in circles, Halle crying because Jack knocked her over, and Dusty & I getting frustrated because our kids don't want to listen. I don't know why they have to act like they're 1 and 3 or something. :)

But if it was tame there would be no laughs! That is what I tell myself anyway. When I am ready to cry I think, I will laugh at it all someday so may as well be today.

Oh we totally have way more luck than you...we don't have them. HAHAHA! The last one we had, Kev opened the FHE lesson manual for a quick lesson (did he forget we are dealing with a 5 and 2 year old?) and the lesson he chose was How To Cope With Death. Just close your eyes and imagine it. ANYWHO, maybe it will be a New Years resolution.

Hah do you think your boys have a competetive streak.....Once Drew gets a little older you won't be able to talk loud enough to get a lesson in over fighting and crying.
