BOLT-Baulin' Over Little Terrier

Yep I took the boys to the new movie 'Bolt' this past Saturday. They really loved the movie, as all kids do. The baulin' came later in the evening when we were putting the kids to bed. Jack started in with "I want a dog." As many know, Julie and I aren't fans of the K-9 persuasion and I defended our stance with "dogs bite, and you don't want to be bitten by a dog, do you?" Jack knows first hand that dogs do bite because he was bitten by my in-laws neighbor's dog 'Princess'. Jack defended himself with "my dog won't bite me because he will be my dog." I then told him that his dog would bite someone else like his brother Evan." Que the baulin. At that moment they both started crying over the situation. Jack was crying about not being able to get a dog and Evan was crying about "I don't want Jack's dog to bite me!" This was one of my best parenting moves of all time. I could have ended it with a quick "we can talk about it in the morning" and left it at that, but no. I got them both crying over a stupid dog-no offense to dog owners. I was able to record about 30 seconds of the conversation on video. The video is terrible, their room was dark and I was using my cell phone. You'll get the picture by just listening to the audio. You will want to pause Julie's music player before playing the video. Enjoy!

The movie was fun, but I don't recommend it to those that are not planning on purchasing a dog for Christmas. I'll bet the Humane Society but down some sweet money to promote this movie, it's basically a two hour commercial for why a child needs a dog.

You are the best parents ever!!! Not only do you make your kids cry at bedtime, but you share the adventure with all of us. I have to say I'm pretty sure your arguments against getting a dog are very convincing. I don't know why they can't just be happy with Pinchy.

Thanks for the heads up on the movie. Our kids keep asking for a pet. As you know, Cory and I are not a pet lovers either. Tanner wants to get a cat when Cory dies...lets hope that doesn't happen for another 60 years. I would seriously rather take care of another human than buy an animal. I should create a post about why I don't want an animal, because I could go on and on right now, but I won't. I love the audio you provided.

So funny... we saw the movie and our three year old came home and said that he did not want a dog or a puppy! I think my kids would cry like that if we ever brought home a pet of any kind (besides a fish). Not crazy about animals, I guess ~

Bwahaha!! Oh my heck. You guys are on my Top 10 parents of all time list. Seriously. Hey, I'm still holding out strong on the "no dogs allowed" scene, we even have a place to keep the smelly thing. Be strong, show them Old Yeller. That'll cure them. HA, HA, HA!

Poor kids. Too bad they don't have suckers for parents.

Nice...I love how you tried to use scare tatics to change his mind. This whole situation is hilarious. Tell Jack to come over and hug our dog. In our family I am the one begging for dogs all the time and Steve keeps saying blah blah blah.
